Data Product Manager Code for Africa
Tricia Govindasamy is an Environmental and Engineering Geology graduate with skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data science. She works as the data: product manager for Code for Africa, Africa's largest data journalism and civic technology initiative, as a part of their award-winning data team; a Pan-African data journalism unit. As a data: product manager, Tricia collaborates on data journalism projects by sourcing data, cleaning and analysing it, as well as creating interactive maps, charts and infographics. Tricia also works with journalists across Africa, assisting them in using data for their stories through Code for Africa’s, WanaData programme in Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya. She is also a trainer for Code for Africa’s Academy carrying out trainings for newsrooms.
Some of the projects Tricia has worked on include GenderGap- a tool displaying the salary disparities between genders in Africa, and #BornPerfect - a data journalism initiative bringing awareness and education on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Africa. She has also contributed to multiple investigative projects such as Fire Factories and Dominion.
